About the Church
The church of Christ is a collective body of Christians, who believe in Jesus Christ, and have been baptized into Christ for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38). This universal body of Christians, from the day of Pentecost until Christ comes again, is made up of every believer who maintains a relationship with Jesus, and obeys the commandments he taught the apostles in the first century. “For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Galatians 3:26-27).
The Scott County Church of Christ is a local congregation of the Lord’s church. The division in the religious world today is far different from the unity enjoyed by the early Christians. We have no denominational organization, but simply follow the teachings of Christ and his apostles, collectively we are the church of Christ, individually we are known only as Christians.
Our source of authority is that which is found only in the Bible, which is God’s inspired Scripture. Therefore, we seek to be governed in all that we do by God’s Holy Word. Since the Scriptures are sufficient for our every need (2 Timothy 3:16-17), we preach and teach the Bible.
Jesus Christ gave His church a responsibility to carry out. The church’s mission is to preach the gospel, or the good news of Jesus Christ, and make disciples throughout the world, teaching them exactly what Jesus taught. “And he said unto them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved…” (Mark 16:15-16).
The ‘good news’ of Jesus Christ is the gospel message that Jesus did what we cannot do – He died in our place to make atonement for our sins and put all who follow Him into a right relationship with God. To follow Jesus and receive salvation in Him, we must:
Hear the Gospel – Romans 10:17
Believe the Gospel – Mark 16:16
Repent of Past Sins – 2 Peter 2:9
Confess Faith in Jesus – Romans 10:10
Baptized for the Remission of Sins – Acts 2:38
Live Faithfully unto Death – Revelation 2:10
We worship God through prayer, partaking of a memorial of Jesus (Lord’s Supper), singing, teaching, and giving. The Scott County Church of Christ’s worship is led by faithful men of our congregation whose goal is to follow the Bible as close as we can.
